Professor Antonio Vallejo

Antonio Vallejo is Professor in the Department of Chemical and Food Technology at the Technical University of Madrid. Over the past 20 years he has conducted research on the effect of nitrogen fertilization, both chemical and organic fertilization, on agricultural production and environmental pollution. He has coordinate several national research project, participate on different European consortiums and signed numerous agreements with different companies from the mineral fertilizer sector. Antonio Vallejo has participated as an expert in The EU Nitrogen Expert Panel and as Coordinator within the ANEP -Agriculture Programme Panel in 2008-2012. He is the coordinator of the AGRISOST consortium.

Research group profile
During 1990-2000, the team worked on nitrate leaching from agricultural practices and nitrogen balance in agro-ecosystems. Since 2000, its research has been focused on the Assessment of greenhouse gas (GHG) and ammonia emissions from agricultural soils. It is one of the few research groups in Spain that has provided results of GHG emissions from agricultural soils, evaluating mitigation strategies based on nitrogen and water management. The group is also working on the development of technology to reduce gaseous emissions from farming systems based on nitrification and urease inhibitors. These studies are conducted through collaboration with companies from the mineral fertilizer sector (Fertiberia; K + S plus Iberia, S.L.; EuroChem Agro Iberica, S.L. ) that provide financial support for research and innovation studies.
