DR. JUAN JOSÉ LUCENA MAROTTA

Professor at the Department of Agricultural Chemistry and Bromatology of the UAM Prof. Juan José Lucena is an experienced researcher in chemical characterisation and in-plant evaluation of new micronutrient fertilisers. Throughout his career, he has coordinated more than 40 research projects, including collaborations with other centres and institutions and participated in a total of 57. He has supervised more than 40 researchers (undergraduate, masters, PhD students and postdocs). His scientific merits have resulted in 171 publications in scientific journal articles or books, participation in 158 communications in national and international conferences as well as participation in 7 patents. In addition, he is an expert member of the fertiliser group of the Ministry of Agriculture and of the groups of chelated trace elements in fertilisers for the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and a vocal member of the AENOR AEN/CTN142 Commission.

Research group profile
The research team of the UAM group “Micronutrients in Agriculture” (MA) focuses its research on plant mineral nutrition with special interest in micronutrients. Since 1982 it has been researching on chelates and complexes in the soil-plant system, and has been incorporating new lines of research since then, these being the study of biofortifiers, especially silicon and algae extracts, the valorisation of by-products as micronutrient fertilisers, and more recently, biofertilisers through the use of microorganisms, as well as nanofertilisers. During this time, the group has maintained projects of the National Plan (Agriculture Area) uninterruptedly and has participated in different consortiums and European projects. It has signed numerous contracts with companies in the fertiliser sector (national and international) including JAER S.A., BASFCURTEX; NAC Química, PROTEX, Valagro, Dabeer, AGROFIT, S. Coop., BIOIBÉRICA S.A., POTASAS y DERIVADOS, Syngenta Agro España, ADOB PPC, Lignotech Ibérica, Fertiberia, Tradecorp, Fertinagro, Tesenderlo.
